The Ruth Kirschtenstein NRSA Award

Eligibility FAQs for Northwestern University Endocrinology Training Grant
sponsored by NIH/NIDDK 5T32 DK007169

  • The Endocrinology Training grant has slots for 2 Graduate Students and 3 Postdoctoral (MD & PhD) Fellows.

  • Only trainees working in the designated mentor's laboratories are eligible to receive funding.

  • Funding is normally available for 3 years to Graduate Students and 2 years to Postdoctoral Fellows.

  • Salary based on the current NRSA guidelines, plus a travel allowance to attend one national meeting are provided. Mentors may supplement from non-sponsored funds.

  • Award recipients must be either a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.

  • The program Mentors are sent a request for applicants at least 60 days prior to the availability of an open slot.

  • Applicants are required to submit the following materials:

PREDOCTORAL candidates:
·        CV
·        Letter of Support from Mentor
·        Two letters of recommendation
·        Academic Record including GRE Scores and GPA
·        Written statement of Proposed Research area
              and Career plans (one page each)
·        Supporting Publications by Trainee (if applicable)
 
POSTDOCTORAL candidates:
·        CV
·        Letter of Support from Mentor
·        Two letters of recommendation
·        Written statement of Proposed Research area
         and Career plans (one page each)
·        Supporting Publications by Trainee

  • An evaluation committee makes the recommendations for applicants; formal appointment is made by the PI upon approval by the NIH/NIDDK Program Officer.
